A lot of visitors try to cram Pushkar and Ajmer into one long, exhausting day, and end up remembering more of the car ride than the places themselves. Splitting it across two lets each half breathe, desert and dunes properly on Day 1, history and architecture properly on Day 2.
Day 1: Desert Camp & Pushkar Town
Morning & Afternoon: Into Pushkar town, the lake and its ghats, the Brahma Temple, an unhurried walk through the bazaar for handicrafts and jewellery
Evening: Arrive at Pushkar Adventure Desert Camp, settle into your tent or cottage then go for jeep safari timed for sunset, then back to camp for a bonfire dinner and a full Kalbeliya folk dance performance
Day 2: Ajmer Day Trip & Departure
Morning: An early breakfast at camp, then the short drive to Ajmer, about 15 km away
Mid-morning: The Dargah Sharif of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, one of India's most significant Sufi pilgrimage sites, and a genuinely moving place to visit even briefly
Midday: Ana Sagar Lake and a walk through the Daulat Bagh gardens, with Akbari Fort if your schedule allows
Afternoon: Back to Pushkar for a late lunch, then either the Savitri Temple ropeway for sunset views or one last relaxed stroll through the bazaar before you head off
